Prepared primarily using two sources:

1. 2nd edition published by J. Walsh.
2. 1st edition published by J. Walsh.

The 2nd edition was prefered as the “more Corect” version. The 3rd movement is the Adagio found in the original oboe sonata HWV 363a rather than the Andante of the 1st edition; it also contains fewer obvious errors, such as the G major Boree being notated with a C-sharp in the key signature.

Various other early editions present on IMSLP were consulted; these agree almost entirely with and were most likely based on the early Walsh editions. The oboe version was consulted for informational purposes; the editor was unable to find a manuscript source.

• II, mm.19: Both Walsh editions have a' on the 4rd beat of the flute part; this has been changed to b' to match the harmony and the identical figure in the preceding bar.
• III, mm.36: Bassline should possibly have d# on both; this makes sense harmonically and is given in one urtext edition of the oboe original. All editions of the flute version unambiguously have d.
